dead laptop

I have an hp pavillion dv9000 laptop that has worked flawlessly since I bought it new a couple of years ago. Today when you push the on button the only thing that happens is the battery indicator light blinks three times and nothing else happens, The laptop is plugged into AC outlet as always. The battery has had charging issues for a long time and I never use the laptop without AC power. I have checked the power source and it is o.k.
The same thing occurs with the AC unplugged from the computer.

Please help if you can lend me any advice it would be greatly appreciated.

Does the little AC light come on when you plug in the adapter? You can try taking out the battery and turning it on with only AC adapter plugged in.

I was expecting a blinking caps lock when I was opening the thread, my HP laptop died a couple of weeks ago and thought it was another victim haha :(

Only the battery light blinks three times when I hit the on button. Tried removing the battery and starting to no avail. Tried unplugging the adapter cord at the box to possibly reset it to no avail. Thanks tho...anyone have any ideas? Please?
I didn't know if a completely dead battery would cause something like this to occur.

Is anyone ever gonna believe me when keeping a laptop always plugged in will eventually do damage to the electrical/charging system???

Unfortunately, your gonna need a new laptop. The only other option to try and if you can access it is to reset the cmos by removing the cmos battery.

Here's a link to the HP support site that discusses the blink codes: Troubleshooting LED blink codes. Unfortunately, they don't tell you what the codes mean but expect you to call them and tell them the code to aid them in troubleshooting. It does discuss some common things to check.

Here's a link to a posting from the HP Support Forum where someone had the same issue and had to have the motherboard repaired: dv9700-won-t-power-on-3-blinks-from-battery-LED-Solved

One possible band-aid type solution would be to buy one of these: Battery-External-Standalone-Pavilion-battery-charger. It would allow you to remove the battery from the laptop, charge it, then plug it back in to the laptop so it can operate off the battery. It would work but would be kind of a PITA.

I leave my laptops plugged in and charging all the time and in 20 years and a dozen laptops, I've yet to have the charging circuit fail. The battery slowly dies but the laptops all continued to operate fine while plugged in. The laptop I'm typing this on has been pretty much plugged in 24/7 for the last 3 years without issue.
