dealing with dust

I relize today after only 4 months all the fans in my computer are covered in dust.
1) Is this dangerous to my system in any way
2) what the best method of cleaning dust (air cans?)
3) My fans have no filters. would adding filters be a good idear. do filters get in the way airflow? how well does it pervent dust? how often do I have to clean filters if I get them?
4) How often is you suppose to clean the inside of the computer from dust and what the safest way of doing so. I know they sell air bottles ment to do so. is this a good method?

I never delt much with this before because I just let my old computer get dusty and never bother cleaning it in the 5 years I owned it. Also there was not fans open to the outside on my old compter.

Since I put so much money into my new computer am a bit more protective of it and want to make sure I do everything possiable to keep it running smoothly.
 
1. yes it is dangerous b/c it restricts airflow which leads to overheating
2. open the case and wipe them off with any type of towel/paper towel
3. big time
4. just check at least once a year to make sure it is good, i dont recrommend the commpressed air b/c for some reason there is moisture in it, dont ask why but when ive used it, it leaves a type of liquid
 
1. Maybe not so much your case fans but if your proc fan is jammed that will lead to overheating and your computer being unstable.

2. I personally use canned air. Maybe you could try one of those swiffer cloth things.

3. No idea. I imagine adding filters would help protect your fans.

4. I would just keep an eye on it and clean it when you feel there is too much dust in there.
 
You can use Air cans but you got to remember that all it is a co2. So you would need about 3 cans that way when one freezes you got the other can to use. I use to do it cost to much money. SO I now use a small compressor with filters in a Tempreture control room. If you got many fan I would dust it once a month . Leaving the dust in would start increasing the temperature in the case thus making the cpu run more hot do to lack of fresh air going in and hot air going out.
 
The biggest danger, IMO, is the dust building up in the HSF. Elsewhere, it's not really going to have much effect. Filters will help, but they will, of course, restrict some airflow, so make sure you have more than adequate airflow before you use them. Even with filters the dust seems to get in. I usually go in an try to blow off any dust once every few months.
 
i used air can on the hsf then it gets on the vid card then i just blow it off the card and then it gets on the case LOL.
