decent inexpensive LGA775 board

looking for a board for core 2 duo, nothing flash though as i wont be overclocking at all. Just a decent reliable board thats not expensive. I know the P5B is fairly recommended but wondered if there were any known solid reliable boards below that in price?

well the gigabyte board would work out more expensive than the P5b so would probably knock that one out of the equation

on another note i would need to have sata and ide connections for HDD as i have my sata drives and my two IDE drives that would need connecting too

the p965 neo-f is a pretty good board ----to the extent of not overclocking, its bench marks are pretty high, just a bit below (not noticable) gigabyte 965p-s3

hmmm again only a single IDE connector, i would prefer two if available to run two IDE HDD and two Optical drives

You aren't going to find two PATA conenctors on any 965 board. You'll either have to find a 945/55 or 975 based board that support core 2.

A PCI Controller card will sort that problem out, or you can do as Cromewell suggested, and look for a different chipset.

hmm pci controller could be the solution then, just out of curiosity does anyone know of any 945/55 or 975 boards that would fit then....ignoring the price for the moment?

errm if thats inexpensive to you i'd be scared to think what expensive was, thats near the top end of prices. In fact i think theres only one board on newegg more expensive for the lga775!

Thanks for having a look for me though :)

well my scouse friend i bought an ASUS P5VD2-MX not the best i dont think, but hey its a cheep board until i can afford better

was only £50...

but you get what you pay for

hmmm curious, that is a nice budget mobo really...hows it perform for you, if you dont mind me asking what are the rest of the specs with it?

erm

memmory - ddr2 533mhz - (2 slots supports 4gig max)

expansion slots - 1 pci express X16
1 pci express X1
2 pci slots

storage - 3 sata (1 external)
2 ide (1 external)

as far as i can gather the board i good for price, has overclocking features ASUS C.P.R and SFS dont know how to use them yet
the only thing that i was bothered with was the memory 533mhz i wanted 800mhz-also would have prefered 4 slots of 1gig each slot rather than 2 of 2gig each

yeah same thoughts i had about the memory.

however i am currently using an Althlon 3200, 1gb pc3200 and a radeon 9550

so i reckon that board, 1gb 533mhz mem, radeon x850xt and an e6300 would be a vast improvement

yeh of course-i am running duo e6400-512 533mhz mem-on board graphics (shite)

lookin for 2gig sticks of mem so i can max it out to 4gig just a little over kill..

im just wondering on what graphics to get Hmmmm

The Gigabyte GA-965P-S3 and the DS3 respectively. I would save the extra money and spend it on something else like a better graphics card, etc. In addition, both of the above boards are great overclockers.

from the small picture i can see i think i only spot one ide controller and a floppy controller on both boards so out of the equation im afraid, plus they are getting towards the prices for some of the 975 boards i have seen

As stated before i'm not after overclocking at all so just a sturdy basic board is all i need.

Even though thats all i need it doesnt seem overly easy to find one so far, although the asus one is looking good for a start.

Also with regards to the graphics card choice, i think the X850XT would be enough for me. Bear in mind that im currently using a 9550 and it pretty much does enough for me so the x850 must be a fair improvement :)
