X1300 Still Crashing With New PSU

ok. its x-mas time for me.. I need a New PSU.. I bought a ATI X1300 a while back and i havent been able to use it because I have a chep PSU that was $19 shipped of ebay..its 400 watt but does not work with my video card. So i need to get one that does. ATI says 300 or 350 watt min PUS.. See my sig to see how much power I suck.. not to much.. so I think 400 will be fine.. I prefer to use TigerDirect or Ebay for my PSU.. can i get a decent one that will work with my X1300 for under $60? If so what kind?

Thanks

(This thread was originally "decent PSU under $60" but I already got a psu, im still having the problem listed later in this thread)

you can get an adpator that will conver one of your molex power plugs to a pic-e one you know. Your cheap PSU probably does need replacing anyway but in the meantime you could get something that will help :)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16812198011

that for instance.

the reason i suggest is because if your going to replace your PSU its worth going all out and getting a good branded PSU that will last you sometime for future upgrade and i would personally spend a little more than your budget for that.

Plus you never know, that might be all you need and solve everything :)

how do you mean PCI-E plug?. there is not plug on my video card.. where does it plug into?.. thanks for the fast response

ok, probaly got ahead of myself there, what the problem with the compatibility of your PSU and your GFX card because 400W should be enough :)

This is the second X1300 I had, Though the first one was defective because of what it was doing but this one is doing the same thing. So I am almost posative its not the card, its somehting else. Before installing the card I looked for a way to disable the OB video with no luck.. Nothing in bios - no jumpers, so i assume its auto. I also uninstalled the Nvidia Display drivers (still needed the Nvidia network card and other drivers for my mobo) Then installed the card and started up (could only get video out of the DVI port but im sure thats how all new cards are) once i pluged in my projector to the dvi port i seen the desktop.. this was good.. so i installed the drivers and restarted my computer like it said.. I surfed the web and watched a video for about an hour on the new card and it worked awsome, then when i went to test it out in a game and it looked awsome and worked awsome, I was gettin 98fps.. needless to say i was very impresed, I was only gettin 27-30 before the upgrade.. I went ahead playing the game but after 2 mins or so it froze and all i seen was a green screen with lines on it.. I had no choice but to restart my computer. I tried it again with a diffrent game and the same thing happened.. I decided it might have been the DVI port or somehting so I tried it with S-Video and it also crashed. I check the biostar websight for BIOS updates to help this but there was none. To me this seems like the card is ok until u demand power out of it. maybe its starving for power. So i tried it on my other computer (biostar GeForce 6100 [NOT T-force] with AMD 3500+) and it did the same thing.. that computer has a 300 watt psu. Anyone know if an ATI card is compadable with this Nvidia based motherboard? I already lost a few bucks on shipping and the seller and I are not gettin allong so there is no way I can return the card so I need to see if I can get it to work. Any advise on what to try or what it can be.. Thanks for the help

I have tried drivers from the CD it came with and drivers from the ATI website with the same results. I also tried it with stock clock speed all arround (even tho I have PCI/AGP lock it was at 100). I also tried it with only one stick of ram, I know having un matched ram can cause problems.

ok.. I installed it agian for no reason.. have not done it in a month.I can use it for gaming AS LONG AS i keep the graphics semi low.. so im sure its my PSU..

right?

what kind should I get.. I know ANTEC TP but thats expensive.. im looking for under $60

Might be worth checking out voltage stability under load before replacing the PSU (even if you just use software).

im looking for under $60
XClio 450BL would be more than enough, and my pick.

Other options include XClio Goodpower 500W, Hipro 500W, Enhance 5140GH, FSP400W or Sunbeam Nuuo 450W

The Ultra V-Series 500W, while not quite as good as the above, is free after MIR at frys, and would be more than sufficient.

Not sure what you'll find on ebay, but hopefully the above list will be enough to go on.

I will check it with Everest using a dual monitor setup.. volts on one screen.. game on the other.. I will let you know. Thanks

They're within ATX tolerance, but really a little low. The supply is definitely struggling. It's not enough to say for certain your PSU is causing the problems, but I would definitely be inclined to replace it.

I have decided to go with the XClio 450BL... 3 people have recomeneded it.. you ceewi1, the person who wrote the PSU101 And he wrote *** Praetor's Pick ***, and finally someone else here did... its only $40 and it will keep me going for a few years.. Im going with it.. thanks for the help

UPDATE:

I got the PSU and got it all installed (allong with a good cleaning of my rig.. ma it gets dirty fast) and that did not fix the problem.. actuall I didnt even get as far as I did before.

First here is the new volt specs.. Better than it was but still not great?

So with the old PSU It was completly fine until I played a game with to much grahpics. then it would show me this green screen with line and I would have to reboot.

Before I started I untinsalled my Nvidia video driver, went to device manager and disabled the nvidia video card (while using it, i dono why it worked. lol) then I shut down and installed the new card and PSU. when I booted back up it did the normal found new hardware wizard and all. I closed it and went to install the new drivers i downloaded earlier that day. Before i got a chance to click anything it crashed.. that was odd because normally its fine on desktop until i play a game.. So i restarted and installed the drivers and restarted like it asked and it looked ok until i went into a game (device manager said everything was good and I had the catalist control ceneter). it only got as far as the game menu before crashing this time.. so i rebooted and it continued to crash on the desktop. every other time it would seem like it uninstalled the card because it would say new hardware found and i would have to untinstall and re install the drivers..

now when i boot up after it check DMI pool data it flashes into a screen that says boot.ini invalid, booting form c:/windows/.. then it boots normall after that.. it never did that?.. also now it does not boot all the way, it stops at the select a user screen even tho im the only one.. it never did that either?..

any sugestions?.. thanks
