Decent Ram?

Muskin is one of the better brands especially favorable to Asus. That's one older brand that was noted for being a good ocing memory on the older Asus models. The board does support DDR3 1200 memory for seeing the fastest memory put to use if you don't have any ocing in mind. For a tight budget you'll get by with that easy enough.

The other thread is where I should simply explain that for system builders essentially means one disk for one machine under the OEM type licensing. But it also saves cost over paying far more for a large paperback book and cardboard retail carton. I paid some $120 for an OEM of Vista Home Premium over the $299 retail tag!

What's better, 2X2gb or 4X1gb? (or 1X4gb?)

Or is it just preference?

Depends, the 2GB stick is rarely used for high performance games because of higher latency, but you can have more total memory, so it depends on what you want to do.

Not too many boards will even run 4gb dimms at this time unless you start looking at server boards. With a board with 4 dimm slots totally 8gb of memory installed a full 1gb will not be seen simply due to the current chipsets available designed for 2-4gb boards. The high prices currently seen on 2gb sized generally means going with a pair of 1gb dimms and adding a second pair later. Then there's the 3gb barrier for 32bit OSs to weigh in.

I can also vouch for Mushkin RAM running well with an Asus motherboard. My old system had an Asus motherboard that ran well with Mushkin memory. I used my old computer without any problems for over 4 years.

I'm not surprised to hear that. That's an older name while some new ones I see maybe some cheap stuff or a good company with a new product name only.
