Deciding on the best Anti-virus/spyware to get

I am currently running Vista Home Premium and want to get some software protection.
I have good things about 'Trend' for spyware protection.
Any recommendations of what programs offer the best protection?

Thanks :)

Having Vista HP installed here as well as XP one thing at first was to look at what would run on the new version of Windows. Surprisingly Grisoft's free for home use version of AVG is one of the top antivirus programs. http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0

Spyware Terminator is a rather recent addition to the spyware/adware remover list and includes a mild firewall. It even catches what others like Ad-Aware by Lavasoft seem to miss. http://www.spywareterminator.com/

Lavasoft's Ad-Aware is noted for removing registry entries created by browser hijackers and other forms of adwares. http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php?PHPSESSID=1e1c9e5a44607e3de49d4a1b7fc3f66a

I run ST on both XP and Vista alike here without ptoblems. If you had problems downloading and installing it you most likely still have the Windows firewall active there. ST has it's own active protection process that would conflict with the Windows version.

This would be similar to need to remove one antivirus program in order to install another. To disable the Windows firewall simply double on the icon found in the Control Panel to turn it off there. Then try running the installer. If you have any antivirus or other IE protection software exit that as well. That should allow ST to go right on.
