Dedicated or Shared

I'm going to buy a new laptop. Is a 128 dedicated video memory better than 256 shared?

Nearly all the time, dedicated is FAR superior than shared, but it really depends on the GPU.

i believe having shared means the video card will take some of your RAM space while dedicated means it has its own memory... dat being said, i will go with dedicated... maybe??
because if the GPU is taking memory space, then your RAM is left with that much space to execute other processes... while having dedicated GPU will leave the RAM more space for other things...

hope im not giving wrong info... but this is my understanding of dedicated vs. shared...
correct me if im wrong

You are right, dedicated means it does have its own memory as shared is simply what the word means... shared!

So, always want a video adapter that is standard dedicated memory and not shared. Good job!

Thanks, that's helpful. I definitely want to go with the dedicated memory. I don't want the video to be accessing the system memory.
