Hi i have been duel booting for a while now but i have come to realize that i dont need xp anymore, i have vista on one hdd and xp pro on another hdd so if i was to boot into vista and format the drive with xp on would that do the trick or would it cause boot problems, i do have a norton backup of vista so if i format the drive with xp on and reinstalled vista would i be able to use the norton image or is some of that attached to xp.

it's a bit raw but , delete/format the XP partition from within vista, then boot from the vista dvd and select "repair my computer", select your vista installation and select cmd prompt, from the cmd (recovery console or whatever it is now called) do :

Bootrec /fixboot
Bootrec /fixmbr

hope it helps

(or you can do it the xp way by - FIXBOOT and FIXMBR only)

I tried formatting the xp drive from within vista and it wont let me it says windows was unable to complete the format im assuming this is because the boot sector for vista is kept on the xp drive. so if i was to unplug all the drives exept the one i want vista on and reinstalled it could i use the ghost image to put vista back up to date with my programs and everthing or would it not work because the image was done at the time i was duel booting.
