i used to have Norton 2004 which used to provide Norton Protection to the recycle bin because of which files could files could be retrieved even after emptying the bin.
now i have Norton 2003 which does not provide such protection.
1.is it still possible to retrieve files.if yes how can they be permaently deleted?
2.is it true that 2003 ver slows the pc to a smaller extent?
3.what are the drawbacks of 2003 ver over 2004 ver.

1- u could still retreive the files that u prementaly delete it. (I have a file, but it is some how large, I will try to send u to ur inbox if u want, if ur e-mail is a bigger one
2-2003 doesn't slows the pc, it depends on the properties of ur PC
3- drawback of 2003 over 2004 is the kind of the updates that is presented in 2004, and the kind of security that 2004 provides.

if the files can still be retrieved then i must be losing space.is this so.
what file are refering to

are the updates of 2003 not enough?

deleted!

okay, usually when u delete a file, then this file is still in the pc, until u replace it with another file.
and what u see when (i.e. the space of ur PC) is a virtual size,
I mean by 2004 is better than 2003, cause there are somethings (tools) that are not presented in the 2003 one.

I have a similar problem. I deleted a 150mb wav file and tried to retrieve it with 'PC inspector file recovery 4', this recovered a lot of deleted files but not the one I wanted.
Any helpful solutions?

Symantecs Norton is the biggest resource hog amongst the AV protections on the market, even though 2k4 tend to be worse than the earlier versions.

What AV/Firewall would you recommend?
I have Norton Internet Security 05 and Norton AV 05 on my other comp and have been looking for a better replacement.

Thanks

i would recommend Nod32 for an anti-virus program. Top-notch virus/trojan protection, with a fraction of the resouces used.. :)

Edit: And for recovering deleted files i use "restoration.exe", and for true perm deleting a file i use "eraser".

I use Norton Systemworks '03 and it hogs very little of my system resources...

Original Question:

I know Norton Systemworks '03 has the Norton Protected Recycling Bin because I have it.

If you have Norton Systemworks you can use the UnErase wizard to get back the files you emptied out of the recycling bin, is sometimes works...

also, I used to be able to do a Basic or Government wipe on Free Space (It seems Symantec changed it so you can only wipe files or folders... stupid them)
