deleting a corrupted file?

I have a desktop computer running WinXP, and I use a secure digital card as a backup for some files. In trying to restore some files to my computer from that backup today, one file was corrupted. It wouldn't copy (which I understand if it's corrupted), but Windows also won't let me delete it. It seems to delete every time I try to, but when I try to delete the folder it is in, I get an error message that the folder is not empty and cannot be deleted. If I then check the folder, the file is listed again. I have checked this file's properties, and it says it has a size of 0 kb, and it is not a read-only or hidden file that should somehow be protected. Similarly the folder is not protected in some way.

How can I delete this file? I imagine that reformatting the card will work, but the last thing I want to do is reformat this secure digital card as it has 8 gb of backed up data on it.

Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestions. Let me provide an update. I tried removing the file in Safe Mode, and it did not make a difference. Then I downloaded Malwarebyte, and when I tried to use it to remove the corrupted file, the program told me it had to restart the computer to completely remove it. I did so, and it made no difference. The file was there after rebooting.

To remove the corrupted file, I performed error checking on the secure digital card. I wasn't even aware until now that you could do this. When it was finished, it reported no errors, and this time when I deleted the file, it was really gone.
