deleting background processes

when i open the task manager and view the processes tab (in XP) there are always alot of random programs running (non system), some of which i recognize and are a fine, others which i have no idea of.

how do i track these processes down and delete them?

also on a side note, i seem to have messed up the mouse double click command. like when you double click a folder for instance, it will usually open it. whenever i double click anything, except for an .exe type file, it always brings up a search window instead. how do i revert it to normal?

thanks

Go to the security section and post a hijackthis log and they will tell if they are to worry about or not. If you see TrustedInstaller.exe in your task manager DO NOT get rid of it. Matter of fact DO NOT get rid of anything until you post a hijackthis log in the security section to clear it up that your pc is clean.
