Anybody know why my Dell 9300 running WinXP Pro doesn't remember my video resolution settings? It keeps defaulting to the highest res. after boot, standby or screen saver.
Something isn't loading along with Windows for graphics there. You will probably end up needing to reinstall the application portion of the video drivers/software there to see this corrected. If you have recently disabled anything in the startup group seen in the msconfig utility it could have been one part of the software there now being disabled.
PC eye- Thank you for your reply. Are you saying to reinstall the video driver? I'm not sure what you mean about the "application portion". I don't have any nvidia disks (thanks Dell). I know that I can get the driver online.
Too bad you didn't have a Dell resource disk. But only service techs have those. The software portion for video even if onboard would be the thought there. Once you have the video drivers/software on good Windows should be remembering through the graphics settings.
If something got knocked out then Windows lacks something to work with as far as dirvers/software for the display setting. Without drivers working Windows will revert to the default resolution automatically on every boot. If you had it set for let's say 1440 x 990 for an lcd that Windows defaults to 1280 x 990 or 1280 x 1024 then you would see the default return each time. Try an update to see if that gets you back to normal.
