Dell Battery Test

I have a Inspiron 5000 Battery Module model no: BAT30WL

It will not power my laptop. The green status indicator indicates full power. Is there a way to test my battery with an electrical tester? Is it normal for a bunk battery to still show a full charge? The battery worked for about 3 years. Maybe it is beyond it's typical lifespan?

I want to replace the battery if it is to blame. The laptop works fine plugged into a wall socket, but with only the battery the computer is dead.

Thanks.

The laptop will most certainly power off if it comes unplugged even with the battery. Thanks. Also I started to think that battery maybe more like 5+ years old. Any advice on buying one? I was thinking ebay. Pricewatch.com had some for $65. I believe they are cheaper on ebay but i don't have time to check.

Thanks again.

After about 2 years, I start waiting for a battery to give out :P If the thing's over 5 years old, that's most certinally the problem :P

I have heard of some places that will replace the batteries(same casing) but I don't know of the sites off the top of my head... "ebay" batteries would probably work alright, but typically, unless they are brand names, the batteries aren't as good as the original ones.
