dell cpu upgrade possabilities

Hello, I have a dell latitude laptop with 256megs ram and a 300mhz cpu in it. I would love to put a bigger cpu in it but Im guessing the biggest one I can get is the pII 500 mhz. Been googling searching my ass off and have seen conflicting info on if its possable or not. The bios is a15, which is the last update offered. Im also confused as to mmc or mmc-2. Are these the same thing? Im assuming I need a mmc2 or -2 processor

Scrap your idea and save your money for a new laptop. That laptop is way too old to do anything with.

Im already doing something with it....chat. If its poasable Id like to know...processors are cheap........Im not going to run halo3 or audocad on it. just chat and a browser window. A little bit bigger cpu like a 500 would make it much better. Oh yeah I forgot one thing. Loosing job in 2 months or less. 500mhz processor is 10 bucks.

You would notice a differnce with a 500mhz CPU your almost doubling your speed. It won't be super dramatic or allow you to run all kinds of new software by any means but you should notice the PC will be more peppy and respond better overall with the software it has.

are you even sure it is possible to upgrade as it is a laptop, the cpu may be intergrated
and you may not be able to change it.

You'll nearly double the speed, yes, but it's still nowhere enough to make it any more usable than it is now. Not to mention that the cooling system, motherboard and power supply probably weren't made to handle anything more powerful, while you may be able to find a replacement that actually goes in, you're in for a ton of problems and likely a ruined historical artefact.
