Kind of a hardware question, nowhere really fit to put it thought so laptop it is...
So ive had this lappy for a while and was my moms before. It was all working when she got it but slowly things started to go bad. After a broken hinge, and nonworking usb and wireless she gave it to me and got another one.
At any rate working on the USB ive done just about everything. The weird thing is so far ive got it to detect: a usb mouse, a lexicon omega audio interface, and by sheer luck a coby usb mp3. Anything like a flash drive, ipod, external harddrive and many other things only give me the "usb device not reconized" bubble.
Couldnt find usb drivers on the dell website, but figured it was included in chipset drivers, then tried a bunch of stuff but of what i can remember: tried both usbs of course, uninstalling usbs in device manager and restart, power management, probably more things, but finally -- with building frustration at usb and at the time the wireless -- total OS format.
Got everything clean and drivers reinstalled and to my great pleasure have returned use of wireless, but still no usb. Cant for the life of me figure this out and just about ready to tear out usbs... My only hypothesis is either their getting no power or stuck in 1.0 for some reason...
