Dell d630 possible motherboard failure

When I turn on my dell d630 it just shows a blank white screen which slowly turns blue with a kind of water mark texture to it. The machine does absolutely nothing else.

Is there anything I can do to find out whats failed? Is it worth repairing?

Sounds like something has died. Is it a laptop or desktop? Either way can you hook up a different screen and test?

It sounds like a screen failure then. OP: Do you have an external monitor with a VGA connection? You can hook it up to the laptop and it should take over from the built in screen as long as it is plugged on.

thats funny. They dont make the D6** and D8** series anymore. I have been looking for one locally, and they are hard to come by.

Changing to an aux screen makes no difference.

I looked at new models but I can't find anything similar to mine for anything like the right money, ebay 2nd hand models are still selling for quite sensible sums. I noticed that a faulty one of lesser spec than mine has sold tonight for £120.

If only for experience I would like to repair mine.

I work with and sell refurbished D620's, which are not vastly different from the D630's. I'd first try swapping the memory and see if that makes any difference. If not it may be the video card. I'm pretty sure the D630's have dedicated nVidia Quatro cards in them.

Voyagerfan99, if you refurb and repair the D series do you think it would be worth me getting hold of the same model to break up for parts. I do that with cars regularly but I don't know if its worth the bother with computers.
