What kind of video card can I buy to upgrade my old dell dimensions 2400 for gaming?

Thank you...

I imagine it's got an AGP slot. You're pretty limited. What games are you looking to play?

The dimension 2400 does not have an agp slot. Your only option is a pci video card and thats not even recommended. The only recommendation I can give is save money for a new computer, preferrably a custom built pc.

and if your going to be running secondlife...give it alot of processor and some fast ram. gpu isnt as important as the ram and cpu.

This computer is actually my friends and I was just trying to help him out with out buying them a brand new computer cause I don't have that type of money... i'm willing to spend $150 to $200...

so what could I do to this computer to get second life going? currently second life does not run on it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...ty

get radegast and run a text only client, only other solution is to rip out everything inside and start fresh, it would need a somewhat capable GPU to run SL, the 2400 series is what Secondlife considers Class Zero Hardware, mine is about Class 4 or 5 and gets about 30 fps depending on the amount of avatars in view, tho im running a viewer that i compiled myself.

to sum up everything, to run secondlife you have to have a decent cpu with good bandwith between ram and cpu, and a solid gpu, id recommend an athlon ii x2 or x4 at the least, 4 gig of ram, and a radeon 5770 or gts450 to get some okay framerates there. secondlife is still a pretty demanding program, however with the viewer 2 builds coming through the snowstorm development process, things are getting a bit better in terms of performance.
