sounds good.
Are you building the HDD's to run in RAID? Also ensure that you are running at 7200 RPM. you may also want to look into SSD for OS and 7200 RPM HDD for data storage.

Something that looks awkward to me is the RAM. I have never seen a laptop run over 8 GB. Not saying that you cant get a 8 GB ram card, but I have never seen one. These laptops only have 2 DIMMS to install ram, so you are limited on your options.

Well, not really. It comes with 1T HDD, but the only reason I think of getting an upgrade, is to gain some extra space.
Same with RAM. Comes with 8GB standart, but their's an option to get 16.
I assume they tested it.

The only thing is the new i7 Core. And that's primarly why I asked.

You can spend $1,500 and have more powerful components if you build a desktop system...

Also, I don't think you can have more than one hard drive in a laptop.

More memory doesn't mean better, but it will allow you to do extreme multitasking (for example, having more than one game at a time open and switching between them as you wish)

You're absolutely correct. The only problem I need a mobile device , not stationary. Money is not the issue here. Like I said I can go up to 3k easy.

I go by what their menu offers. Like I said, I assume that they can put 2 HDDS in.

What do you think about video card?

The only problem I've got with that laptop is the battery and the hard drives.

Yes, you can have more than 1 hard drive in certain laptops. I just wouldn't use two 640gb drives; I'd get one 1TB drive and a SSD as a boot/program drive. The SSD would also cut down on noise and power usage somewhat.

My problem with the battery is it is only a 9-cell battery. I know I've seen laptops with 12 cells and with the power that laptop will be drawing, it could definitely use those extra 3 cells.

i could build a desktop with the same range components and it would cost £600/$940 - which is a $1400 difference, i definetly aint getting that, and as soon as you've dropped it the day after warranty ur screwed

Are you kidding?
You want to spend $2400 on a machine with GT445m???

What you need is something with core i7 with GTX 480m/ 5870 and SSD + Seagate Momentus XT for storage, 4- 8GB RAM.

You're suggesting that video card too weak?

My problem with the battery is it is only a 9-cell battery. I know I've seen laptops with 12 cells and with the power that laptop will be drawing, it could definitely use those extra 3 cells.

I'll take this into consideration. Thanks

OK I have built it. Well, Dell did. I just bought it :)

System runs fine.
STALKER runs smooth on max res. Temps get to 67F for the core and 52 for HDD on avarage during gameplay. No overclocking yet, but we'll see.

Noise amount acceptable.

Thanks for everyone's replies!
