Where to start with building your own? Will it be any cheaper? What about support? With DELL it's next business day repair to your door - i dont want to be carting it to computer shops etc as own a business.

Yeah, you should build it yourself and if you don't know how, find a friend that can. You get better parts and they last longer. Dells are overpriced.

I've just calculated price parts if buying from scratch based on DABS prices:

Case: £120
Processor (same as DELL one) £235
RAM 32GB £240
Grahpics Card (same as DELL) £120
HDDs (£100)
Blu Ray Drive (£60)
Wifi card: £50
PSU £60
OS (£70)

Total: £1050

It works out more than DELL if i was to remove the DELL warrenty pack. :/

For example, if you build your own, you can cut out chaff you don't need.

32 gigs of ram? No need for that much. 8 gigs is perfectly fine.

Also, that crappy case, and PSU costing 180 combined, I call bs on that. Its probably some cheap 500w PSU.

True, but you can do the same with DELL, i choose the top one purposley, they do many lower models too.

I thought the Video Card AMD Radeon HD R9 270 2GB GDDR5 was good?

It's alright, but for the overall price of the system it's not worth it. What are your uses for the machine going to be? You'd be better off with a more balanced system with 8GB and an i5 and a beefier video card than the 270.

I do work with photoshop etc (have loads of windows open) and play the occasional games. I've already got an i7 desktop pc that ive had for 3 years, it's a hp ive got a GTX 460 and i7 870 @ 2.93ghz

I suggest you consider upgrade your existing PC.
Upgrade your GPU. probably GTX 770/ GTX970 if your PSU can take it.
Add 250GB SSD for OS & program. Crucial MX500 250GB SSd is on sale at £65. Worth buying.
I don't know how much RAM you've got, But for your use, probably get at least 16GB

If you want to buy a new machine. This would be better value than Dell.

Building the computer is simple. Its a step by step process. Many videos are online that will walk you though it. Newegg- How to Build a PC.. I watched the three parts of this video series and was comfortable building after the fact.

If you have any trouble with it booting or anything people on here are more than willing to help.

Thanks for replies. That custom build you sent looks interesting. However, i'd like this case: www.dabs.com/products/corsair-obsidian-750d-full-tower-atx-case-906G.html?q=pc case&src=16

^ look cool and plenty of expansion?

So, how easy is it to build this?? Will i need help from other people or is it simple?

How do you diagnose problems yourself if it wont turn on?? Is there a kit or what?

Most people don't need that many expansion. It is up to you to judge if the extra worth spending.
If u like that style, consider 350D instead.

You've definitely tempted me. But, as I run a business, the DELL warranty package is very useful, the idea you can have someone come to your door and fix your unit over a 3 year period is something that I wouldn't have if I built it myself.

I imagine if my custom built PC one day doesn’t turn on, then what? Which part isn't working? It could be a number of things, and I don’t want to have to be taking it to computer shops.

I think i'll go with the DELL - after all, the spec is great for my needs. But you've definitely tempted me to building my own, and if it wasn't that I own a business and rely so much on my PC then i'd have gone that route.

Dells just arent worth it, my dad bought an XPS8500, and ended up having me replacing the graphics card because it wasnt good enough, voiding warranty anyway
