Ok, so i am working on my coaches Dell Inspiron 1520 laptop and this thing has completly gotten me confused.
It all started when he got a virus by acidently clicked a popup box thinking it was his anti-virus. After getting the viruse removed, we have sice had constant problems connecting to any kind of network. Sometimes it will work, sometimes it won't. When it doesn't connect, the "status" stays at "Acquiring Network Address" and the internet wont work. It will stay like that forever if you let it. You can restart or shutdown the computer, and when it comes back up, it will randomanly connect and bring up the internet. Sometimes, you can set a static IP and that will work, sometimes you have to set it back to automatic for it to work. When setting a static IP for the wired network adapter, it will sometimes get a solid connection (no "Acquiring network address") but i still wont bring in internet. I have tried uninstalling and reinstallin the drivers for all the network adapters and no difference.:mad:

He said he cant do a format due to software that he cant get back. So im stuck. PLEASE HELP!!!

Well, i have been able to get a reliable wired connection by setting everything manually in the TCP/IP properties.
The setting are as follows:
IP Address: 192.168.1.116
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1

Preferred DNS Server: 97.81.22.195
Alternate DNS Server: 24.177.176.38

This is the only way i have been able to get ANY kind of reliable connection to the internet. His wireless is still VERY unreliable. Please, any advice is greatly appricated. Thanks in advance.

Now knowing how the virus was removed, most likely you are still infected. So please perform the following procedure.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from here or here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • then click Finish.
  • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version. Please keep updating until it says you have the latest version.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform quick scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • A log will be saved automatically which you can access by clicking on the Logs tab within Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware

If you continue to experience problems after doing this, please post a HijackThis log by doing the following:

Download the HijackThis installer from here.
Run the installer and choose Install, indicating that you accept the licence agreement. The installer will place a shortcut on your desktop and launch HijackThis.

Click Do a system scan and save a logfile

Most of what HijackThis lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

Post the logfile that HijackThis produces along with the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log
