Hi everyone it's my 1st time here and I'm hoping you can give me some ideas. My Inspiron either during the boot process or just as you get to the welcome screen in windows the screen will black out. If you shine a light in to the LCD you can see the desk top and you can type the password to move on if you wish. If I shut down and reboot the same thing happens. Would this be the video card or something else? Thanks

I have a gateway laptop here that I had the same thing happen on. One of the boys was playing a game and got mad and slammed my laptop down on the table. It broke the backlight lamp on the display so my screen wouldn't light up. Like you I could just barely make out what was on the screen but that was it. Luckaly for me it was still under warranty and had them replace the bulb.

It sounds like that could be your problem. Did your computer take a hit recently? It might just have worn out too, not sure though.

The darn kid don't play with this anymore either :).
