Dell laptop battery

Hi

We have a Latitude D600 and a Latitude D610 and the thing i cant work out is when battery is on 600 we get 4hrs but when put on 610 its only half that but showing full charge on both machines
there is a massive difference in battery life to both systems, if i use the same battery ie on the 600 i get 3hrs 50m and on the 610 i get 50mins.
The systems are similar ie both have same amount of ram, same hard drive. and processers are slightly different as 600 has 1.4 pentium m and 610 is running a 1.86 centrino both on xp pro.
The ram is ddr2 on 610 i would think.
Software is similar except 610 has dell quickset and i need to update bios on 610 as its running version 3 and i think version 6 is out now.

could be a verity of things, from the ma inboard taking more power, to what is being loaded in the registry to simply the way both systems are build, who knows really

the pentium M was really designed pretty well in my opinion, it has very minimal power usage and is still pretty fast, as for the centrino i don't know, i'm thinking one has something that must demand quite a bit more power than the other

Hi

Ive been using both machines at various intervals throughout the day and even though the spec is similar except for the processors being different the 600 seems faster on working projects and also internet than the more powerfull 610

Im puzzled i truelly am.

like i said the pentium m is a nice processor and faster than you might think, clock speed isn't everything, you could also have some crap software running in the background slowing the other down.

Ive done a spec on both machines to see what you think.
D600
Pentium m 1.40ghz-600mhz
cache-1024kb
memory 512mb@266mhz
video- ati radion 9000
40gb-hdd

D610
pentium m 1.86ghz-800mhz
cache-2048kb
512mb@533mhz
memory channel- dual
video- intel 915gm graphics
40gb hdd

What you are doing on the computer plays the biggest part in how long the battery will last. The things that drain it the fastest are using a CD/DVD drive and programs/processes that need to use the hard drive a lot. Programs that are processor or (to a lesser extent) memory intensive can also shorten how long the battery will power the system.

With that in mind, I checked the specifications for the two systems and the battery should work about the same on both. Do you have external devices connected to the D610 that are not on the D600 (e.g., external hard drive)? If that is not the case, then it is either a problem with the battery (unlikely as it works fine in the D600) or something with the motherboard on the D610.

Do the two systems work about the same when using AC power?
