Dell Laptop Blank Screen

I'm having an issue with my Dell Inspiron N5010 Laptop (running Windows 8). It is turning on and then the screen is going blank and black after showing the windows logo. My laptop was running well and suddenly this problem occurred. I turned off the laptop forcefully, and from then I am facing this problem. Even i attach external monitor to check but monitor is also displaying black screen. Please let me know how to solve this problem.

Could be anything from failing hard drive to being infected. Have you tried booting to safe mode or running a hard drive diagnostic?
 
When powering on laptop, press the F12 button to access the system diagnostic program.
 
Follow Johns steps by all means, but I'd like to know some background information.

How long have you had your laptop and is it used frequently off of a desk or table (such as in your lap)?

My Inspiron (N5110) was found to have a failing harddrive (of which I replaced the 750GB with 1TB). I frequently used it on an uneven surface and also did a lot of media editing. If anything, my bets are on the HDD having an issue, but a diagnostic tool is the best way to find out..
