Dell Laptop reboots after shut down

I have just bought a dell vostro 1500, it came with windows XP installed and i had a problem with the laptop restarting after i had asked it to shut down.

I have reflashed the BIOS to the latest version and also installed Windows vista ultimate but the system still switches itself on as soon as it completes shutdown.

When the system boots up i get the Dell media direct boot screen so am unable to get into bios, i have tried removing media direct but this screen still appears.

Does anyone have any ideas on this? I bought this from NDC uk as a refurb i have sent it back for repair and it has come back in the same state, before i go mad at them i just wondered if anyone could help.

Hey man ...it could be because of 2 things.

One: your installation was faulty

two: your system has some factory defects.

I used to have the same problem with my Toshiba. I returned it back to the manufacturer. The best thing you could do is to call up the tech support and ask them how to proceed. DONT TELL THEM THAT YOU CHANGED THE OS. They will write it off as a faulty installation. Just tell them what they need to know...
