Dell Motherboard Replacement

I currently have a Dell Dimension 5100. About 5 months ago, I tried to swap harddrives and after doing so, the computer just wouldn't turn on into windows. It kept booting the Dell Screen and showed a blank screen with a blinking asterisk ( _ ). After many attempts of removing all parts and putting them back inside, i had no luck.

So i just ended up blaming the motherboard but i read that if you reinsert the cmos battery or even replace it, it sometimes does the trick, but still no luck. Is there a guide which tells you how to do this procedure?

Recently, i found this motherboard for Pentium 4 but had concerns about it working properly with my computer. Would this motherboard work fine iwth my pc or is it just a waste of time? Below are the links for the motherboard and PC.

P.S. if you think there is something else with the computer, feel free to leave comments. Thanks

I had a spare 120 gb hard drive sitting around. I was using the 80 gb hard drive and when i swapped it for the 120 gb, this problem started to occur. Then when i placed the old hard drive back in, it still was not working. So thats where i think i might have shocked the motherboard somehow even though i don't remember toughing anything besides the sata wire.

By the way, when i took the cpu apart to swap the hard drives, i pulled out the power wire from the back of the cpu really fast without turning the extension off. Maybe that caused a short-circuit or something.

Did you reinstall Windows onto the (I'm assuming new) hard drive?

Both hard drives had windows already installed on them. I installed windows on that 120 gb and had it sitting on the side incase i ever needed to swap, i wouldn't have to install and wait for everything to load. I used both of these hard drives with the same computer so i wasn't switching between different pcs. Sorry for the late reply.....hope this helps
