Iam having dell optiplex gx 240 machines . with 1.5 processor . i changed it to 2.4 mhz 512/533 . in a05 bios there was no display but in a02 & a03 bios display comes and in windows it shows 2.4 but inside bios it shows only 1.8 mhz . Is there any method or bios version which can show the correct value in bios . latest bios available with dell is A05 and it does not support (no display) Kindly somebody please help me in this matter

Have you tried CPU-Z? If CPU-Z says it's at 2.4ghz than thats what it is.

BTW, it's Ghz when you say 2.4 or 1.8. Mhz would be 1800 or 2400.

Quick thought though, I know the stock Front Side Bus speed is 400mhz, your new chip is 533 FSB. Perhaps the motherboard is underclocking your CPU to 400mhz FSB which makes it 1.8ghz. This actually makes sense, it stilll should be a decent upgrade from what you had.

I have a P4 ''emergency'' backup system, it only supports 400mhz FSB and I even tried a 2.4ghz 533 but it would not even POST. I ended up going with a 1.8ghz/512kb/400mhz chip, which was a substantial and noticeable upgrade from a celeron 1.7ghz/128kb/400mhz chip.

What do you mean there's no display with the other bios? How did you downgrade if you couldn't see the screen (or am I misreading something?)

My guess is it's something with the bios. You've probably got a version loaded that doesn't fully support the processor you have installed. I looked around and people seemed to think those will support a 2.4-2.8GHz processor, so the speed should be alright.
