Dell Optiplex GX1 problems

I recently got this computer right off from the streets so I can tinker around with it and stuff. I connected the CPU to everything necessary to run it, monitor keyboard, etc. The thing turned on which surprised me a lot! But the screen goes black after the dell loading page and text appeared and said

PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-MOF: Exiting PXE

The screen gives me two options: F1 to reboot(which does nothing) and F2 for setup utility.
I tried messing with the blue system setup screen, but I have no idea what to. Whats wrong with this computer. I would like a answer that doesn't include the words "throw" "it" "away" or anything like that.

Disable network boot, make sure you cdrom is set as first boot device and hdd is set to second boot device. If that don't fix it then you have other issues, bad cables, bad power supply. But change bios settings and let us know if that works. You might have a bad harddrive.

I tried messing with the settings and got nothing. There are two pages to this setup and I cant got on the second page. >=( The settings are very complicated and I dont understand how I can use your advice here.

There is a Drive setting that has

PRIMARY----TYPE---CYLS---HDS----PRE----LZ----SEC----SIZE
DRIVE 0:
DRIVE 1:

SECONDARY:
DRIVE 0:
DRIVE 1

And there is other stuff on the bottom

RESERVED MEMORY:
CPU SPEED:
NUM LOCK
CHASSIS INTRUSION
DAC SNOOP
ACPI:

Any suggestions?

It looks like its not even detecting any hard drives. Are there any attached to the system?

Yeah there is a harddrive. The setup requires me to input the data manually and thats what I have trouble doing, trying to figure out the settings. right now everything in the fields listed above are on NONE, DISABLED, OR OFF

In the drive fields there is a setting AUTO
Do I try this?
PRIMARY
DRIVE 0:AUTO
DRIVE 1:AUTO

SECONDARY:
DRIVE 0:AUTO
DRIVE 1:AUTO

No didnt work....but the battery is useful. Put that sucker in my old computer which hasn't worked in five years because of a fried battery.

Now at least I have my old computer full of old memories.

Dell optiplex

First try to resolve it by your end if you are able to do that and if its more complected then i suggest that don't try to do more R&D.

Go to Dell customer care and give the Dell executive to resolve the problem. if its in guarantee period.
