Dell Pc re-casing

i got a dell xps a while back and have been adding to it since, it still has his original motherboard and i have decided to move it to a new case, i am currently having trouble figuring out where to put this power sw. i have looked up this manual for my specific model: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/435MT/en/SM/techov.htm#wp1194395 it is currently all i have to go off and if anyone could give me a general idea where to put this pwr switch and the reset switch and such that would be great.

Unless someone else can verify which pins are the power switch then the best thing to do would be to find a cheap good mobo to replace it with. However, you will have a problem with the operating system as it won't boot up. You'll basically have to buy a new OS and install it.

I wouldnt ever recase a dell - they use so much proprietary non-ata complaint stuff (power switches, cpu coolers, etc) that even one xps case to another will be a botch job.

Personally i'd keep it clean, add a rear case fan or hard drive bay fan (if ability exists) and not buy a dell next time.

BTW - what model is the Dell and which case did you buy for it?

The OS will work if you reinstall it of course using the dell disk and the code from the dell case.

Power sw, mmmmm - I cant remember where the pins are on the dells can you not trace the wires in the old case and take a picture so you know where they go in the new case. I will crack open a couple of the dells i have here in a bit and see where the wires go.

IIRC the new Dells are a lot better about the proprietary stuff. Still requires a bit of modding, but it's not like the days when they used BTX and those weird white connectors with the power switch and front usb and audio crammed on it.
