Dell Precision Workstation 670 questions.

Hi all, a couple questions about PC building.

I'm attempting to build a PC for the first time and honestly, I have a lot of questions, but here's what I think I should ask first: I got an old PC from work, one that they were getting rid of, and it's very large and roomy so I decided to build my PC in that. However, I was told by a colleague that it's very old and newer parts and drives might not fit into it; it's a Dell Precision Workstation 670 (I believe that would make it an ATX case). My plan is to honestly just gut it and get entirely new everything (Motherboard, Processor, hard drive, etc.)

Anyway, my first question is this: is my colleague right to say that since the tower is so old, it will make it more difficult, or is there some sort of standard that PCs fit when it comes to cases and subsequent hardware?

Secondly, I noticed that the power supply is actually to the bottom of the case, rather than inside of it. It's attached at the base and is the same width and length of the case. Because of that, will I need to find a power supply manufactured to fit that case specifically? Would those still even be made, considering the age of it? Should I just stick to the old one? If I do stick to the old one, what will happen if I do end up needing a higher wattage power supply?

Thanks in advance,
Z.

Don't build with that case. It'll be more of a hassle than a money saver. Spend some decent money on a nice case.

Because it's meant for the Dell designed motherboard. You'll have a hard time fitting a motherboard in, let alone a PSU.
