Dell Vostro

Am hoping to buy a new laptop before the June 18 deadline on getting one with XP. I presently have a Dell Inspirion 1501. Dell has some good deals right now on the Vostro, but I'm not familiar with it. I'm looking at a Vostro 1000 with a Turion Dual Core TL-60, 2G RAM, 120G HD, 15.5 inch XGA LCD w/TrueLife, ATI Radeon Xpress 1150 256MB video card, 8X DVD+/-RW with double-layer DVD+R write capability, all for $593. I'm not a gamer. I do a lot of web research and word processing, and I like to watch movies on my laptop and download music. Wondering if the Vostro is a good deal. Any thoughts much appreciated. I use a Dell Vostro 1000, absolutely love it. Its a fantastic laptop, but I have Vista on mine.

One of my good friends has a fairly new Dell. I think it's the Vostro 1000... I know it's right at a year old. Anyway, she's had quite a few problems with it. Primarily the screen; it's become extremely dark and almost unusable. She now does most of her work on an external display. I also noticed the laptop had a fair amount of physical wear and tear from daily use (used as a desktop replacement)
