My long distance girlfriend is wanting to order a computer from Dell but has heard nightmare stories about Vista....Is it that bad?..I have Xp...and if so woild they put xp on instead
Tom:rolleyes:

Vista is fine, usually the bad stories are blown well out of proportion. I agree, Vista is much more stable than XP ever was for me, even on the same hardware.

Well, i wouldn't say get dell, but anyway, if it has SP1 vista, it is good, SP1 has the glitches fixed.

I also agree with everyone. I have vista premium with sp1 and it works great. Other than windows explorer crashing once or twice on me don't know what that was about =/

Just make sure you get the extra ram 2 gig min. and that you get Vista with SP1 and you'll be ok. But don't worry about Vista worry about Dell.

Vista was sluggish pre SP1 for me. The reason why Vista failed is because it was cool to hate vista.

80% of all the info I was readin on vista hated it without any REAL facts. I would say most never ran Vista.

I run x64 Vista Ultimate and I am oddly surprised at how much I like it. One thing is you will want to disable things to make boot up faster etc.

A good site for process lists etc is here.

Disabling Indexing and Defender will greatly increase your speeds. I sadly use 2 programs that are blocked by driver tool so I gotta boot up hitting F8 to disable it each time which sucks but eventually there will be a fix.
