hello. ive talked to both dell and gateway, and neither can tell me why the xps costs so much more. i can upgrade the fx530 to a quadcore for under 2000, while for the dell the cheapest i can get it for is 2600 with a slower graphics card (256 vs 320mb)

can anyone tell me why, or give me a reccomendation? If i get teh dell, im probably going to get the dual core bc the quad costs to much(an dthen upgrade later), and id ge the quad core for the gateway.

thanks for any help

Persoanlly, I would recommend you to built your own comp, because for the same price you can get a better one compared to those two.

But if your are looking for a recommendation between the two, I would say go for Dell XPS (looking at brand only). Im not really sure as to the quality of Gateway computer.

If you can give us a full spec of both comps, we would be able to give you a better recommendation.

The Quad processors are now standard on the Gateway FX530 for the same price as Core 2 Duo back in the Spring. I just re-did my FX530XM order from 4/27 to get the Q6600 on a FX530S (best price breakdown) instead of E6600. I got ripped up slightly by my sales rep because he wouldn't honor the free 19" to 22" monitor upgrade (worth $140 off) they had in late April but I did get $260 off total discounts. That was from $160 for using the sales rep and I had a $100 off coupon to upgrade to Windows Vista Ultimate. So because of losing the free monitor upgrade I ended up paying $35 more in total system price for the Quad. The other bad part is I've had multiple delivery delays causng me to go insane! The latest ETA stands at 8/2 on the status page but the sales rep thinks because he had to redo my order for the Quad, that I'll get it around 8/21. Here are my specs if I ever see this computer:
