Dell XPS 7100 installing SSD III

Bought two SSD III HDs, one for existing Studio XPS 7100, one for new Inspiron 17RSE

Sorry if this is the wrong forum or covered elsewhere, but I'm really not good at this kind of thing.

i) The Studio XPS has about 700GB of media files on it, so I can't transfer it all over. Just want to do OS and then add stuff later.

ii) The Studio XPS has Windows 7 64 bit installed, but I can't find the OS CD.

iii) The Inspiron 17R will come with Windows 8. I'm happy to install that on my desktop if it will be easier and I won't have issues from Microsoft.

iv) I want to know if I can just plug the SSD III in the XPS 7100 and get full usage from it. Some links suggest I should have got a SSD II.

v) I have the USB transfer table.

vi) My plan with the laptop is to switch out the hard drives, install Windows 8, and then add the Sata HD later.

Here are my questions.

1) Would you provide me with a walkthrough and advice for the desktop. This is the one I'm most worried about. Thanks!!

2) Is my plan for the laptop sound? Do I need to download drivers first or will it just work as planned?

Thanks for all of your help!!

Contact dell for recovery cd's if you don't have installation media. It's always a good idea to have installation media anyway. There is also a possibility that they have created a program that will burn recovery cd's already on the machine, check that first. You will not be able to install windows 8 that has been assigned to a different machine.
