hey guys
i've had my dell XPS M140 for about two years now..everything has been good until up to this point. basically i feel like my laptop has been running slower and slower than usual. I would check the task manager with the performance chart and many times it would peak at 100%. the xps runs on intel pentium M processor of 1.86 gh. i also got 2 gb of ram with only 80 gb of harddrive but i only use about 40 gb of that harddrive since everything else is in my external. so recently its been running real slow and it has frozen up on me many times. i can hardly run four programs at once without it freaking out. can i clear my ram? and start from new again? any advice as to how to make my laptop run more smoothly would be appreciated. Suggestions/advice/thoughts...anything would be lovely thank you all

Have you done a reformat of your laptop? perhaps if regualr housekeeping doesnt work, you may want to do that and start fresh again.

Yes, it takes a while but, its not that hard at all to do and will gaurantee a clean slate.

If you want to do it and need a hand--let me know and I'd be happy to walk you through the process.

What all do you have running in the back ground?

Programs that you install can run and you'll never even know it, that can cause a strain on the RAM and processor.

Have you defragged the hard drive....say anytime in the past few months?

yehh--Things that load on startup. That can really lag down your performance. check in msconfig under startup and you can view, enable, or disable things that load. Alot of things can be running and you don't even know.

Be aware of changes you make as certain things are necessary to be 'enabled'

hey scooter if you can walk me through it...that would actually be great...and i've run msconfig a few times to take out unnecessary programs running in the background...really all i have running is some messaging programs such as aim and msn i also run skype and then theres mcafee antivirus and spyware...thats really all i run...so technically it shouldnt be slow or laggy...so if scooter you can walk me through...or there are any other suggestions or anyone know how i can clear my ram...or something

hey scooter if you walk me through that would be great. as to scout...i only run some messaging programs like aim and msn and skype....also i got mcafee antivirus and spyware running in the background...i've ran msconfig a few times to take off the unnecessary programs during startup so my laptop really shouldnt be running that slow or laggy at all...so any other help would also be appreciated

scout i dont really run anything in the background except a few messaging programs such as aim, msn, and skype. i also run mcafee but thats all...other then that i've always ran msconfig to make sure no unnecessary programs run during startup. as to scooter...i would actually like to know how to basically reformat my computer...so if you can walk me through that would be great...thanx...also if anyone else have any other suggestions
