I have a choice between two comps. Will be usimg for everything, gaming, net surfing, edeting photos and others.

1. e-Machine W3503 Desktop PC 3.33 GHz Intel Celeron D, HD-160 GB, Memory- 512 MB DDR

2. Compaq Pressario SR 1923 WM-B AMD Athlon 64 Processor 3500+, HD-160 GB, 512 MB PC 3200 DDR SDRAM memory,
All other factors being close, which would be the better pick?
Thank You;

For a complete system you will want to "avoid" the eMachines garbage sold in places like Walmart, Best Buy, Target, and other retail chains. They are simply something to throw on a shelf but are nothing but headaches to service and upgrade. With HP having bought out Compaq the #2 option is the certain best choice of the two there. (Adding another 512mb dimm can help with newer games.)

yea i must acree with PC_eye i do more work on emachines than any other brand and when you take one apart and look at it its like 300 differnet brands in one they just throw all kinds of shit togethor without them i woudlnt have much business thanks emachines for being around lol!!! you should go with the compaq for the money they offer the best deal for you

give us a budget if you want a good computer, and are not prepared to build one yourself (you will get much better performance). we can steer you in the right direction, especially if you are going to be gaming

You could drop a new Asus or MSI board($80-100), an AMD64 3500+Socket 939 cpu($109) together with a gig or two of DDR400 PC3200 memory along with the 80gb drive you already have in a new case with a good name power supply and some large fans at a good price and still have a good machine for a variety of things like multimedia, video capturing/editing, gaming included.
