Desktop Build?

Repercussion

New Member
Well, I am going to make the investment in a desktop computer...this laptop isn't holding up to my expectations... but I don't know if I should buy or build my desktop computer...?

I'm leaning towards building at the moment... mainly because than I know what I get and I am not paying for the pre-installed operating system and can just use my own.

The main problem is simply that I have never built my own desktop before... I know how to set it up cause I have added parts, taken parts out... but the main thing I am worried about is the power supply and the cooling system... also, I am having a hard time deciding on the parts I want... but I do know this much...

My Requirements:
  • Intel Quad Core 2.4Ghz
  • 4GIGs of RAM [2x2 or 4x1]
  • Wireless Card which supports B/G/N
  • 512MB Graphic Card - One perfect for watching movies and playing games
  • Extreme Gamer Sound Card
  • 500GIG Hard-Drive

So with that in mind, hopefully someone can help me figure out the best build. I am not sure on a motherboard, cooling system or power supply or case...

Anyways, if you have any questions, let me know... :)

Thanks for the help ahead of time. :)

I can do without speakers... Monitor I will need, using a 40lbs monitor on a entertainment computer is embarrassing.

Thermal compound, I have no idea what that is unfortunately.

Keyboard I need, I already have a wireless one... but will be replacing that soon too... Don't worry about speakers, keyboards and the mouse... I will buy that separately, I just need a desktop and the monitor. :)

Hey really sorry but I gotta go watch a movie so ill get back to you in about an hour or two if somebody else doesn't help you by then :( I'll try to look at computer parts occasionally though inbetween boring parts.

Budget = $1,000

Monitor - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009145 - $189.99

Budget (after monitor) = $810.00

Total - no rebates - $1,040.92
Total - After rebates - $940.92
Total saving on rebates - $100.00

Other Parts, i recommend:

With everything that i included that is just over.... you can not fit that sound card into your budget, with everything you would like, it just can't work, what i have put into the build are the basics, extras are below the build.

I hope this helps.
