Desktop distorted

Hey,

So I have a new computer in the office, hooked it up to my widescreen monitor, but everything is a little distorted. Tried playing with the settings a bit but everything is still fuzzy.

Here's a picture, its 1400x1050 so its gunna be big, hopefully you can see the fuzzyness im talking about, everything is stretched to. Tried adjusting the resolution and it doesn't really help that much. I like high resolution though so if I can keep this I'd like to.

if the native resolution of his monitor is 1440*900 it cant even be set higher than that resolution,you know that?

I think it's more likely that his native resolution is 1680x1050 and the fuzziness he's describing is because it's at 1400 instead of 1680, somehow.

By the way, you can't show distortion like that with a screenshot. It doesn't stretch to fit our screens, we simply view it in its natural resolution.

I say reinstall the vidya drivers.

Agreed, reinstall video drivers. You might also try hitting the auto/adjust button on the monitor, if it has one. I have to do it sometimes, after changing the rez or installing updated drivers, to negate the blurriness that pops up.

That resolution isn't even an option if I goto Advanced > Adapter > List All Modes

going to reinstall the vid drivers. The auto adjust button doesn't fix the problem, just shifts the screen up about an inch so I have to readjust it manually.


edit: reinstalled the drivers. fuzzyness isn't as bad but still there.

What are the physical dimensions of the monitor? Do you know the model number? Is it wide screen? Do you know what the native resolution should be?

its a 17" widescreen as previously mentioned. Model # as shown in the link I provided is HW173D. Websites say the native res is 1400 x 900 but that res is not an option... as i have previously mentioned. and also... like i have previously mentioned my current resolution is 1400 x 1050.

I think that resolution is not listed because your computer cannot properly identify the screens supported resolutions.

if so, possible solution 1:

Try to find somesort of driver for that monitor.

possible solution 2:

I donno about ATI, but with Nvidia, you can set "custom resolutions" in the Nvidia panel (If Nvidia drivers are installed, right-click on desktop -> Nvidia Control Panel -> Manage custom resolutions).

Try those, see if you can get 1400x900 res.
