Desktop Harddrive adapter cable

I just bought my girlfriend a new Windows Vista laptop. Yes, I am an extremely nice person...I know :P Hers is nicer than mine now

She wants to take the files from her desktop computer, and put them onto her new laptop. She is into photoshop and graphic arts, so we are talking at least 10GB woth of media here.

What kind of cable can I buy to connect her old desktop harddrive, to her new Windows Vista laptop? Is there an easier way? I would perfer to buy it locally and not online.

Do you have an enclosure that would hold the desktop drive?

You could also use a network and share the files and copy them that way. Which is probably less of a pain then buying something you might only use 1 time.

Hmm, good thinking. Hook the drive up to another computer and transfer them over her home network. But I don't know how happy her brother would be to do that. Maybe I'll just hook it up at my house and do it that way.

I don't have an enclosure, and you're right about using the cable only one time.

Thanks for the advice! :)

Well I think she is going to sort through all her "stuff" and weed out alot. Hopefully it won't be 10GB total. If this doesn't work we'll have to go buy some DVD's and try it that way.

Just for kicks, here are her specs -
Acer Aspire 5610
Windows Vista Home Premium
Intel Core Duo T2250 (1.73Ghz, 533MHz FSB, 2MB L2 cache)
15.4" WXGA Acer CrystalBrite LCD (16ms)
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950
120GB HDD
DVD-Super Multi double layer (DVD+/-R Double Layer/DVD+/-RW)
1GB DDR2
802.11a/b/g wireless LAN

I wanted to keep it for myself once I got on it, but I already told her she could have the new one. Biggest mistake of my life! No dead pixels either, I love the screen.
