Sorry if this is the wrong place first off.

I was on my computer when I got a message from my toolbar that said "Windows suggests doing a virus scan" (or something along thoes lines) So I click on it and it installs something onto my computer and now I can't change backgrounds on my computer, its just a gray screen. So does anyone have an idea about what to do I have scanned for spyware (found nothing) and virus (found some that can't be deleated)

I have no idea what else to do besides reformat windows which is out of the question.

you probably installed a virus. that may of been a pop up or spyware that you may of gotten. do you use broadband?

what is that virus that can not be deleted?

I recommend that you try a couple of anti-virus cleaning

utilities before you reformat. Its work a try. You can download McAfee's version, Stinger, here-->http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

Also Norton makes a version as well. You might also try HiJack This but you need to be careful what you remove.

Running utilities like these in safe mode often gives a better result. Remember to delete all your temporary files, temporary internet files, etc. and also best doing this in safe mode.

And, if you're not running a good antivirus program, I highly recomend it. Some of the broadband companies offer them free to their subscribers.

Good luck.

Yup you should never click on such popups. You did indeed open a window to allow a virus to install itself onto your machine. the popup was a classic trick. Try running whatever virus software you have (update it if necessary) try online scanners as well. If none work then re-format.

Unless that msg coems from the SP2 Security center then that might very well be spam (as for the lack of wallpaper, uncheck the active desktop thingy if it is checked and if not, you've likely caught a virii)
