Desktop Icons

I am using XP and my desktop icons have aquired a mind of their own. No matter how I arrange them whenever I boot up my computer they now arrange themselve the way they want which is a double row on the left side of the desk top. I have tried to arrange them in the order I want and have them set to "align to grid". When I reboot the desktop shows them the way I have set them but then changes them to the left side in a different order. I have tried every option in "arrange icons by" with the same result. This stared a few months ago and I don't think I can use restore sytem as I cannot remember exactly when. Has this happened to anyone else?

No. I use align to grid. But it does not make any difference How I try to arrange the icons, they seem to have a mind of their own and align on the left side of the desktop in an order I never selected.

solved problem

I solved my problem. It had to do with a "cicache.exe" file that was in my startup. When I unselected that file everything works ok. I don't have a clue what that file does but I think it got there when I installed a new card reader.
