Desktop not recognizing new SSD drive.

I currently have a HDD in my desktop. I want to image and send all files to the new SSD. I plugged additional power and sata cables into the SSD but windows will not assign it a drive letter. I see the drive in disk management and have tried right clicking it but nothing happens. The HDD drive still shows as C: in disk management.

I would really appreciate any help with this.

Did you try plugging the SSD in whilst the computer was running? If so, reboot and see if you can format it in disk management.

Have you tried the SSD in another PC to ensure that it isn't dead? New drives can be dead on arrival I'm afraid. I assume it's detected in the BIOS.

Got it figured out. In disk management I right clicked on the large unallocated box on the right side and chose "New Simple Volume". Followed the steps and all is well now.

Thanks for the help.
