Hi all,
I am not sure if this is the right section to put this post, anyway.

I have this Gateway desktop 508GE with pentium 4 processor run @3.4GHs, has 2GB DDR ram, OS windows XP professional sp2, 200gb HD. I also have this gateway laptop mx6124 with Intel celeron 1.5GHs processor and 1.5GB Ram and 320gb HD. OS windows XP home edition sp2.

The destop should run fast with it configeration, right? but some how the laptop run faster with the same programs, I used to open about 4 programs at one time and the IE 8 use to have about 4 tabs in it.

Is something I can check and or do to see why the desktop run slower than the laptop?

Thank you.
Paul

It should be faster but perhaps you have a lot more stuff on the hard drive on the desktop bogging it down.

Try defragmenting the hard drive, might need to do it 2-3 times if it hasn't been done in a super long time or ever lol.

Probably need general maintenance as 87dtna as suggested but to add to it.. Download and run Ccleaner so it will delete old temporary files and such as those will slow down the system dramatically. Also make sure the recycle bin is emptied. Also, you should scan your system with malwarebytes. I just worked on a laptop that over 16,000 files in the recycle bin. It took about 5 minutes for it to boot up totally to where all the desktop icons would appear. Once I deleted the items in the bin it loaded a lot faster.

And believe it or not, I worked on a windows 98 machine this week that over 360,000 temporary internet files and over 70,000 system temp files. It works better but since there is no antivirus software out there for win 98 anymore, I've talked the owner into me building her a new system.

I believe it. I know a few that swear to this day Windows 95 and 98.
Some people ya just can't change.
cheers...

Thank you guys, I will do that and see what hapen, well I did do malwarebytes and antispireware on it regularly, so is not malware cause that, I also don't have anything in the recycle bin as I delete the files by hold down thw shift key all the times.

As for windows 95/98, I have just stop use windows 95 last year and still have some machines useing windows 98 and ME. theose are pentium 75mHz and 150mHZ with 32mb or 64mb ram, can't use windows xp. I still have two pentium 75mhz run Novel mirror data server for the inventory control and billing department. I still use MS DOS 6.1 up to last year.

Best regards.
Paul.

Hi all,
Where is IE 8 store the login name and passwords? I just run cccleaner and wipe out everything store in the computer like login names. Is there a way that I can save that next time I run cccleaner to delete the temp files?
Thank you.
Paul
