Hi All,

This is my first post and I apologize for starting with a problem. I picked up a Dell Inspiron 6400 Laptop with a 1GB RAM, Windows XP Hone, 120 GB Hard Drive, DVD writer, etc config.

For the past 1.5 months, I had not used it and had kept it in my safe. This morning, I took it out to use it, booted, used a bit of the Internet and after 30 minutes shut it down. Then, after an hour when I am trying to boot, It is not booting up. I tried both with AC and battery, nothing at all. I removed the battery and placed it again, removed the RAM and placed it again, but nothing. It is as if there is no life in it.

Can anyone please help me? I cant afford to spend money on it at the moment. Please suggest some remedy.

Thanks a lot

Sounds almost like the motherboard's shot... So when it won't boot, it doesn't do anything? No lights, fans, or even clicks? How about lights when you plug it up(charging/charged lights?)

Hi marketsnipers,

I had a similar problem with my (less powerful) laptop a few months ago after storage. A friend who works for an IT company suggested static electricity can build up from the battery if it went into storage fully charged. Sounds stupid, but the remedy is very simple and worked for me:

Take out battery, disconnect from power cord, and then hold down the power button for at least 30secs (that's supposed to discharge it). Do this a couple of times, then try and start it using the AC power without the battery.

Its a long shot, but doesn't hurt to try. Good luck!

Absolutely no lights, be it battery or AC adpater connected. What do you think. The funny thing, I had just used it 15 minutes before it happened and shut it down. And then, DEAD.

i found the problem. it has to do with the type of computer you have. it is a dell. these things are to be expected.

sorry, dell has a bad rep for reliability in my book.
