Did something wrong

Help I have made a CLANGER, (Australian, for serious mistake). Some how I have deleted a page I use every day many times, and would like it back. It contains many E-mail addresses, Web addresses and hints and clues on how to do things, which helps this 75 year old brain through it's day.
To start with I am running Windows 8.
I am using the program, OpenOffice.org Writer.
When I opened it the page was blank, and the saved name is still at the top of the screen. I am happy to admit that there is a possibility that Red Wine could have cause the slip of fingers at the end of the day.
If it is too hard I can live without it but, it would be nice to have it back.
ANY CLUES?

Right click on the file in File Explorer, click Properties, and look under Previous Version to see if there is a shadow copy of the file.

Thanks for the super fast response. I went into properties and all I could find was,

Under General

No, you need to go to Properties and then click on the Previous Versions tab. The general tab isn't going to do anything for you.

OK, at the risk of sounding like a dummy, I went into My Documents then right clicked Properties, but couldn't find Previous Version. If that is different to File Explorer where do I find File Explorer?
Thanks for your patience.

Well when I was responding to you I was on a windows 7 computer. Now that I'm on my desktop (running 8.1) it doesn't look like the Previous Version tab is around anymore.

Where to now in this strange world?

Theory (A). It seems that once it is deleted it is gone forever.
Theory (B). I often hear on the TV that, the Police can find stuff on computers that has been deleted for years when
Paedophiles and Drug rings are the subject.

Oh well, I will have to become friends with a Policeman or, give up.

They have file recovery software you can download (such as Active@ File Recovery) but if you saved over the document and then deleted it, you'll just get the bad document back.
