I know that this sounds like a stupid question, but im getting reall confused about the difference (if there is one)

Basically, a chipset is a pair of chips (or in some cases just one) that are attatched to the motherboard. They are split into Northbridge and Southbridge with the Northbridge being the more important of the two and the Soundbridge delegetd to deal with misc stuff really). Not an absolutely accurate definition but gets the point across
