can i anyone tell me what the difference is between say a AMD 64 3000+ venice and the same chip but named newcastle??

Hey

The difference is the core revision used. The Venice is newer and made using the 90uq technology. The Newcastle is older and uses the 130uq technology. What this means is that the Venice is cooler and more overclocking friendly. As well as that, the Venice has SSE3 support added as well as having a better memory controller on die. Certainly go for the Venice if you can.

yes, its a fundamental piece of info, if they dont show it, then its not the kind of store you want to be dealing with.
