OK, I don't want to sound like a total idiot .. but I guess I should ask anyway.

Will there really be a difference if you run 2 sticks of 512mb memory against just 1 stick of 1GB? I've heard about dual channeling and stuff, but never really knew what it meant... please, no flaming

i would think that it would be faster. i think its double the bandwith so programs take memory from each of the memory sticks at the same time so it would be faster then programs take memory from one stick. dont know if im making sense here but i think thats the way works.

You better Off getting just 1 stick of 1GB ram.. Not Only its faster then 2x512MB sticks,, but also it enables you to upgrade your computer's memory in the future without dumping your existing memory..if you know what I'm saying.....

Bottom Line: Your computer will run much smoother with 1 stick of 1GB ram, rather then 2 sticks of 512MB ram.

I dont think so bigdogz4u2. With 2x512mb ram cards, you get twice the bandwidth of one 1gb ram card. I would still suggest getting 1 stick of the 1gb ram card so you can upgrade in the future.

exactly. although its limited to 512 at a time, youre essentially doubling the speed. IDEALLY it would be twice as fast, although it isnt always the case. the only advantage really to having 1 whole gig is that it leaves space for more (and if you dont have dual channel, such as a socket 754). the disadvantages, however, are that if it fails, youve got NO ram, its hotter, and its generally more expensive than its 2x512 equivalents.
