im getting a new laptop next week. i want to put linux on it. more specifically, some kind of ubuntu. what are the differences of ubuntu and kubuntu? would either work fine on a laptop?

Have you used linux before? If this will be your first dabble with it I would recommend goin with Ubuntu as its pretty 'User Ready' meaning theres not a lot on your end to do to make it start working right whereas Kubuntu is a little more 'prepping'. Although I will add that I have not used the KDE environment in about 2 years so the new version may have corrected some of the things i disliked about it.

I don't know too much about linux, I've dabbed into Ubuntu a little and I have heard that Kubuntu is a little more on the linux user side vs. someone just looking for another OS option like Ubuntu. What are your thoughts on Fedora?
like i said taylor, its comparable to ubuntu. they even have a kde version.
