differences between ubuntu and kubuntu

im getting a new laptop next week. i want to put linux on it. more specifically, some kind of ubuntu. what are the differences of ubuntu and kubuntu? would either work fine on a laptop?

The main difference is the GNOME vs. KDE environment. I looked it up quickly and it seems that with KDE the whole entire OS is customizable. Might be something cool to dab into. Check out the discussion here.
 
Have you used linux before? If this will be your first dabble with it I would recommend goin with Ubuntu as its pretty 'User Ready' meaning theres not a lot on your end to do to make it start working right whereas Kubuntu is a little more 'prepping'. Although I will add that I have not used the KDE environment in about 2 years so the new version may have corrected some of the things i disliked about it.

ive used ubuntu and fedora a little. i sorta quit using linux for a while since i got frustrated when i couldnt get a working video card driver. but im ready to dive back in.

I don't know too much about linux, I've dabbed into Ubuntu a little and I have heard that Kubuntu is a little more on the linux user side vs. someone just looking for another OS option like Ubuntu. What are your thoughts on Fedora?

like i said taylor, its comparable to ubuntu. they even have a kde version.
 
Never used Fedora yet. I will agree that Kubuntu is a little more 'linux user' geared. Ubuntu is nice if you want an easy, simple, elegant OS without many worries.
