Different memory brands

Hi,

I currently have a 512mb DDR266 (brand = Nanya) on y motherboard and I could have a good deal for a 512mb DDR400 (brand = Kingston). My mobo can run at 266Mhz max for memory, but will those 2 memory units work together anyway (I guess the DDR400 one wil only be limited to 266Mhz) or is it not compatible??

Thanks

They will work together, but it isn't a great idea to mix brands and/or speeds. Why not just get 512 Nanya DDR266?

Unless you plan on squeezing every tiny little MB/s out of your memory (at which point you wouldnt be asking) then its perfectly ok to mix brands

so it's gonna be ok!!

Well it should be but it's still entirely possible that the memory that your about to purchase will not be compatible with your motherboard. Although mixing brands is OK about 99% of the time. It's a good chance you'll have no problems but still there is a risk so make sure you can return it before you purchase. You are after all mixing brands as well as putting in ram that prob. is not compatible with your mobo at all.
