Different RAM modules

Hi there,

I have 3 different memory modules:

1. 1 GB 400 MHz DDR
2. 500 MB 400 MHz DDR
3. 500 MB 333 MHz DDR

At this point, I only installed the first and second. The system runs fine.
Would you recomment combining the third one, and if yes, at what speed? Should I overclock the 3rd one @ 400 MHz, or underclock the two others @ 333 MHz?
If downclocking: does the advantage of having 500 MB extra outweigh the disadvantage of a slower FSB?
Do you think the system will run stable?

Thanks a lot!

Specifiations:
AMD Athlon XP 3100+ 2.2 GHz
MoBo PC Chips M848A rev 2.1
Windows Vista SP2

What version of Vista are you running, basic, home premium, ultimate or business? If you are running basic, then the amount of memory you have is sufficient. If it's anything higher, I would recommend getting more memory of the same speed, cause if you add memory of a slower speed then it slows the rest down to that speed as well. Even though you wouldn't see much of a slow down.

Thanks for the reply!
I'm running Home Premium. The performance is ok, could be a bit faster though.
If you wont notice much of a slow down when putting in the DDR333, like you said, do you think it would be worth it having 500 MB extra? Im a bit short on money right now and this older module is lying around...
Do you think overclocking is a good idea?
Thanks again!

Depending on what you do with your computer depends on how much ram you need, especially since you are running home premium. You can shut off the "eye candy" like vista aero to utilize the memory better. Overclocking might help, but I can't help you in that aspect. If you are only browsing the web, emailing, instant messaging, office program then most likely you don't need more memory but if you do any decent gaming or audio or video editing then you need as much as you can get.

Yea, I'm mostly using the computer for internet and office. Its running without any troubles now, so I think I'll just leave it like it is.
I would like to do some video editing in the future, so maybe I'm going to get some more memory then.
Thanks for your help!
